Compassionate Friends
A Compassionate Community involves families, friends and other community members supporting each other to live well, age well, grieve well and die well.
A Compassionate Community is one where individuals and families are supported throughout life (including at the end of life) for issues related to age, disability, illness or bereavement.
The support provided can take place in many different forms including emotional support, practical support, spiritual support or simply companionship.
The support is provided voluntarily by families, friends, community members or via formal volunteers (although this may be coordinated or supported by paid workers).
A Compassionate Community is also a community that is comfortable talking about life, age, death, and loss. Compassionate Community activity is community led and centred. Examples include home visiting, help with gardening, transport or shopping, befriending, mentoring, bereavement support, coffee mornings, carers groups, good neighbour schemes and many others. Locality Links CIC can support individuals and groups that want to develop a compassionate community approach or build upon existing work. This can be provided through face-to-face meetings, taking part in training events and by attending regular meetings, providing an opportunity for Compassionate Community groups to share ideas and support each other. Interested in finding out more? Are you part of a Compassionate Community already? Can you develop a Compassionate Community group? We would like to hear from you.
