Health Walks
We want everyone to have access to a short, free and friendly health walk within easy reach of where they live to help them become more active and stay active. Locality Links CIC supports local communities to develop and deliver Health Walks.
The programme is part of a national initiative led by Walking for Health. It aims to encourage people, particularly those who are the least active, to do regular short walks (30 minutes-45 minutes) within their local community. The walks are sociable and fun. All walks are FREE OF CHARGE and all abilities are catered for.
Health walks come in all shapes and sizes and are:
- • Regular – consistent walks undertaken on a frequent basis
- • Short – ideally around 1 hour or less
- • Easy - accessible to all, particularly people who are currently inactive
• Free - no membership or fees, excepting voluntary donations - • Led by trained volunteers – volunteers must complete our free Walking for Health training
As a Scheme Coordinator, Locality Links can be responsible for:
- • Ensuring there are appropriate walks in the local programme
- • The effective communications and marketing of walks
- • The training, development and management of suitable volunteers
- • Sourcing sustainable funding
- • Undertaking monitoring and evaluating to measure effectiveness of their scheme and demonstrate outcomes
- • Undertaking outreach and community engagement to target audiences who will most benefit from being more active
- • Following our best practice guidance
- • Networking, building partnerships and sharing good practice and case studies
- • Undertaking training and development
- • Keeping records up to date
