Culture Champions
Culture Champions are a powerful resource for mobilising older people and stimulating interest in the cultural offer of local communities, boroughs or cities.
Locality Links work with local communities to recruit, develop and support Community Champions to act as ‘ambassadors’ for the arts and culture with the aim to:
- Inform elderly networks and communities about the variety of cultural events taking place throughout the year.
- Encourage elderly networks and communities to attend and try out a variety of culture events taking place throughout the year.
Culture Champions are given a wide range of information about arts and culture events in the local area and can receive offers such as discounted tickets, and be invited to contribute to projects at specific cultural venues, e.g. volunteering at an Arts Centre.
Their role is then to share their insights, experiences and knowledge of the cultural programmes in their local area with their friends, networks and local community and, where possible, to encourage and even support visits to the organisations involved in the project. Culture Champions can also be involved in co-programming themed ‘After Hours’ events at galleries for older audiences, participating in specially designed Culture tours, and testing experimental theatre projects.
